Referring a client to Fleet
Information for GPs, social workers, community mental health teams and other services across Camden and North London.
What we offer
Fleet is a registered charity providing low-cost, open-ended-in-spirit counselling to people who would struggle to access it privately. We are not an IAPT service and we do not work to a fixed protocol.
- A short assessment call, followed by a free first session
- Up to 24 weekly sessions with the same counsellor, extendable where clinically appropriate
- Online, telephone or face-to-face appointments in Belsize Park
- A contribution agreed with the client by ability to pay, so cost is not a barrier
- Counsellors who are qualified or in accredited training, each holding their own clinical supervision
Who we can usually help
Adults presenting with trauma, bereavement and loss, the aftermath of life-changing illness or injury, stress and anxiety, low mood, relationship and family difficulties, addiction, and the effects of unemployment, isolation or financial hardship.
Who we may not be right for
We assess every referral individually rather than screening on diagnosis. Where someone's needs would be better met by a specialist or statutory service, we will say so at the assessment stage and come back to you, rather than holding them on a list. We are not a crisis service and cannot respond to urgent risk.
To confirm before launch: whether Fleet takes under-18s, and any other exclusions the trustees want stated here plainly.
How to refer
Email the referral to fleetcounselling@yahoo.co.uk with the client's name, contact details, their consent to be contacted, and a brief summary of what they are presenting with.
We will arrange the assessment call directly with them and let you know the outcome.
Working relationships
We already receive referrals through the North London NHS Foundation Trust and the North West Camden Core Team, and we are glad to hear from other services in the borough.
Timescales
We are a small service and demand is steady, so there is usually a short period between referral and first appointment. We will tell you where things stand rather than leaving your client waiting without word.
